As a rule, make-up brushes take up a lot of space in the make-up bag of full make-up artists. There are brushes for foundation, blusher, bronzer, several types of eye shadow brushes and other make-up brushes. These can help to streamline the make-up process, but don’t forget that dirty brushes can be very bad for your beauty. We tell you how often you should wash your brushes and what happens if you don’t follow these instructions.
How often and how should make-up brushes be washed?
Washing make-up brushes is necessary because they are not only dirty with coloured cosmetics, but also harbour bacteria. This is because make-up accessories collect residues of sebum, dirt, dust, bacteria and dead skin cells.
Washing make-up accessories is simple. All you need to do is use water and soap, or alternatively add coconut oil or make-up oil. However, it is not advisable to immerse brushes and sponges in boiling water or wash them in the washing machine. It is a good idea to dry your accessories with the bristles downwards, so that the shape of the brushes is preserved. There can be a problem when washing silicone foundation sponges, as they sometimes do not have time to dry out before being used again. In such a situation, it is best to stock up on spare sponges – products of this type do not cost much.
Make-up accessories should be washed at least once a week. If you use certain accessories to apply wet cosmetics every day, it is even a good idea to wash them daily. These are, for example, brushes for applying foundation or painting lips.
What happens if you don’t wash your make-up brushes?
Don’t follow the recommendations for washing your make-up brushes? Your skin will definitely not be happy. Clean make-up accessories are a prerequisite for healthy skin, otherwise, we may notice irritation, an increase in acne and other skin lesions and infections on our complexion. The use of dirty brushes and sponges contributes to clogged pores and oxidative stress. This, in turn, can lead to accelerated skin ageing. You don’t want wrinkles to appear on your face prematurely, do you? So it’s worth washing your brushes regularly, especially as it’s a simple task and takes literally just a few moments.
